Three hospitals in Alberta had ineffective Medical Device Reprocessing Departments (MDRD; sterile processing), requiring modernized services, technologies and space.
Background
Process
Cornerstone assessed requirements at the three sites over a 20-year horizon by consulting stakeholders, analyzing surgical and other data, and reviewing workflows.
Solution
The resulting functional programs and preliminary test fits showed how the projects could be realized within the existing hospital footprints; Cornerstone was then retained to explore the domino effects of expansions. The reports proved feasibility and set up Alberta Infrastructure for next steps.
The Results
Year project horizon
Combined expansion space across all three sites (~22,818 CGSF)
3 Functional Programs, one for each facility (Sturgeon Community Hospital, Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, Westlock Health Centre)
