Vancouver Coastal Health was expanding its primary care services by implementing new Urgent and Primary Care Centres (UPCCs) across its service area.
Background
Process
The Authority enlisted Cornerstone to write umbrella Clinical Service Plans (CSP) to establish the standard services and required service volumes for each centre. These were followed by a scalable Functional Program to define the physical spaces needed to deliver those services efficiently. The work was conducted with clinical and administrative leadership from existing sites, learning from current designs to guide the new one.
Solution
The final report described the population within each of six target areas and the proposed UPCC size to service each area. The Authority is using this study report to find and build out appropriate spaces.
The Results
Different sizes of UPCC suggested
Total patient spaces within a Large UPCC
Annual visits expected at a Small UPCC
