Background: Under provincial legislation Metro Vancouver is required to develop and adhere to the goals and targets of a solid waste management plan, the document that guides garbage and recycling services in the region and its municipalities. Cornerstone was retained to plan and direct implementation of the engagement and consultation program for Metro Vancouver’s eventual Integrated Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan. The Plan required the approval of B.C.’s Minister of Environment.
Our Solution: Cornerstone helped to design and deliver a comprehensive, phased program that met provincial requirements and Metro Vancouver’s commitment to consult and communicate with residents, interest groups, First Nations, business representatives and elected officials on major plans, projects and initiatives. Engagement and consultation activities included planning and facilitating 35 meetings across the region. Cornerstone prepared information materials and detailed project reports for all project phases.
Results: The Integrated Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan and the engagement and consultation program received provincial approval in 2011.
