Background: Cornerstone assisted the Arts and Heritage Project Leadership Team at the City of Surrey with the development of a comprehensive consultation and communications program for a long-term strategic Cultural Plan directed at the development of arts and heritage. The program was aimed at engaging the community and the City in enhancing awareness and understanding of the role of arts and heritage in Surrey’s ongoing evolution as a major urban centre.
Our Solution: Cornerstone was retained to help with the development of a comprehensive engagement and communications program for the City of Surrey’s Cultural Plan.
The centrepiece of the program was a very successful World Café (facilitated workshop by invitation) that brought together artists, the business community, residents, youth, seniors, elected officials and City staff. The World Café – facilitated by Tom Sadleir – was intended to shared perspectives on the future of arts and culture in Surrey, and also provide direct input on the Cultural Plan. 100 individuals took part in the event.
Results: Council adopted the Cultural Plan, including the report on communications and consultation activities and findings. The 2012 Surrey Cultural Plan provided a framework that will enhance the ability of the City of Surrey to more effectively mobilize the resources and talent available within the arts community towards a sustainable future.
